Greetings from Hesperia, CA.
I am BLOGGING at my brother's house on his home computer. They have computers in their homes out in California. Can you believe it? What will they think up next? It was a decent enough flight out here with little choas or bullshit. I have spent the day hanging out with my brother and his family. My brother's kids rule. His three year old daughter is very talkative. I wonder where she gets that from? It is in the nineties all day still in the high desert. It is quiet up here with an overwhelming sense of vastness. We are off to San Francisco, CA in the morning to see George and the Browns - in that order.

It’s five o’ clock in the morning. My plane leaves in two hours. You don’t still have to be at the airport two hours before your flight because of terrorism, do you? If so, it is not happening. An hour seems more likely and even that seems ridiculous. What happened to the Juice running through the airport? Wasn’t he late for his plane to visit his brother in California? This is too early. Of course, I got this ticket for $219 and this was the shortest flight they offered at that price and, of course, I am going to be happy when my brother is picking me up at the airport at noon but this is still too early. This is the first airplane trip that I am ever taking by myself. Look, mommy, I am a big boy now. Although I am going to be happy rolling with my brother by myself, you know, doing all that brother stuff man to man, I am going to miss Laurie and I wish she was going to be there to look at when something goes bump on the plane. Alright, I have to wake her up and then I have to fly – literally.

I finished reading “Infinite Jest” today. It had a non-ending. There was no ending. It had a nending. (Thank you “Seinfeld”) The nending does not diminish the greatness of this book. It is just that I wish post-modernists weren’t afraid to say something. I like a big fat point to smack me across the face. You don’t get that with “Infinite Jest”. I wish it would have ended with “They all lived happily ever after.” or “They all died a miserable death.” Give me something. I have to finish packing for my trip to California. Later.

I just got back from the Grog Shop and my first of two gigs sitting in on drums with the Dreadful Yawns. It went good. I don’t know what to say except that I really love this band and their music and it was an honor to get to play with them. Is that enough for you? If you missed out tonight, I will be rocking out with them again Monday night at the Beachland. Come out or suck at home. Your choice. Laurie and I bailed right after the gig because I have to go to bed. I still have too much to do at work before the California trip. A word of advice for the people that I work for: the only thing that you can do to get me to work more is promise that the work will eventually stop. I listened to the first Jefferson Airplane album all day at work and, guess what, I found it very good. Onward to tomorrow.

I just got home from practice with the Kid. Although it was a good time, we sounded like crap. There is a desired looseness in rock and roll and then there is too loose. Tonight was too loose. I guess I should be happy that we are only ragged after never practicing instead of awful. That is what they say – to look on the bright side. Yesterday, I practiced with the Dreadful Yawns for the second and only time before the show at the Grog Shop tomorrow. For only two practices, it sounded good. I am excited about the show tomorrow and I am using this space to encourage all of you to come out. And if you can’t make it tomorrow, I will be sitting in with the Dreadful Yawns on Monday at the Beachland a couple of hours after my flight arrives in Cleveland, OH. Yes, my trip to California is right around the corner. I am going to be missing only two days of work but you would think that I was taking a several month leave of absence with the way that they are piling on all of those one-more-thing-before-you-go assignments. Assholes. In response, I am doing my best to pretend that I am already on vacation. Take that, whitey. As noted on the Assholier than Thou Good Times Happy Friends Monday Morning Radio Show Starring Baby Fea (yea), there is more than a subtext of substance abuse themes in “Infinite Jest”. For all of the portrayals of addiction and associated personal tragedy in the book, all it has made me want to do is drugs.
