I was just about to blow off work when this guy who has not given me a single assignment all year but is a really nice guy asked me if I had an hour to do something for him. Five hours, two cups of coffee, a bunch of Van Morrison records and a couple of phone calls to Thea where all I said was “I am fucking bored!” over and over again and it was done. There is hope that I will be able to blow off work tomorrow. There is always hope. Had band practice tonight. It felt great to hit the drums. I have many plans for this weekend. Maybe I will BLOG tomorrow while I am blowing off work and tell you all about them.

If you doubt that there is a God, listen to Van Morrison sing. There is your proof. Six degrees of separation? I don’t think so. In Cleveland, OH, it is more like one or two. That means either one of two things: Watch yourself or let it rip and be ready for it to come flying back in your face. I was geared up to be rolled at work today by the big boss. I had all of my defenses rehearsed and ready to go. Instead, I got a reward. What is up with that? What do you make of corporate overlords who do not actively oppress? Am I fooling myself into believing that my name is Toby? I typed more old show notes today. I will be done on Friday as planned. I am really getting into “Infinite Jest”. It only took three hundred pages. Tonight will be remembered as a turning point, one way or another, in my life.

Back at work after the long weekend. So not glad to be there. It would not be the end of the world if I got fired. It would be a new beginning. Trying to get a bunch of stuff done before I go to California in a couple of weeks. Getting re-organized. Started typing up the show notes again today. Do you remember when Thea got a nose ring and she was describing everything as nice at the beginning of summer? I almost forgot until I typed those notes today. This is a promise in BLOG form to do more with the website. Watched the “Bad News Bears” while eating dinner tonight. They did not win in the end. They used bad language. They dropped n-bombs. That movie was old school. “Bad News Bears” really is the defining movie of my childhood. More than “Star Wars”. More than “E.T. – the Extra Terrestrial”. More than “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. Right up with “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” as an early teen. “Raging Bull” as an older teen. And “Spinal Tap” as an adult. Laurie and I went for a long walk. We talked about the future. We did not fight about the future. I am going to read “Infinite Jest” and the go to sleep.
